Many years ago I saw a recycled glass bottle candle holder, the inspiration for my project today. My father gave me a "bottle crafter" kit, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that removing the bottom of a bottle is a simple three-step process:
Step 1: Score the bottle in a line around the place you'd like to make the break.
Step 2: Heat the scored line carefully by rotating the bottle over a candle 3 - 4 times.
Step 3: Plunge the heated bottle into cold water. A simple pull and twist to separate the two pieces. (If not, repeat steps 2-3.)
I then used some wire and beading pliers to form a spiral base that slowly ascends the bottle and loops in the neck to hold it in place. I used the remaining length of wire to form a hook at the top. Even though I only have one, I envision my garden illuminated by the gentle, swaying glow of candlelight in recycled wine bottles.
